Families seeking asylum come to Australia determined to build a better future, not just for themselves, but for their children.

At the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, we work alongside families who have the right to work and study, to move beyond crisis and towards long-term independence.

That means education, employment and empowerment. Not just today, but for generations to come.

Your support helps families move from surviving to thriving.

A future worth investing in

Our THRIVE model is built on a simple belief: everything can change in a single generation when people are given the chance to participate and fulfil their potential.

By investing in education, employment and empowerment, we don’t just change individual lives. We strengthen families, restore skills, grow businesses, create jobs and build connected communities.

What thriving looks like in practice

From Gardener to Cadet Engineer

Kateryna arrived in Australia from Ukraine in 2023 with more than a decade of experience as a civil engineer. Despite her qualifications, she struggled to find work in her field and took on gardening work just to support herself.

Through the ASRC Employment Program, Kateryna received tailored support to review her skills and navigate the Australian system.  With guidance through a complex, multi-stage application process, she secured an engineering cadetship with V/Line and the chance to complete a postgraduate qualification in Infrastructure Engineering Management.

Confidence through connection

Mya arrived in Australia in late 2024, having worked as a full-time teacher in her home country. As a newly arrived migrant, navigating daily life (from online systems to supporting her children’s schooling) felt overwhelming.

Through the Women’s Empowerment Program and its Digital Literacy Program, Mya began rebuilding her confidence and skills. With access to tailored learning and a supportive community, she developed the digital skills needed to engage with education and everyday life in Australia.

Mya has now enrolled in a full-time course and is working with the ASRC Employment Program to pursue her teaching career here.

Please give today to help refugees families thrive

Our THRIVE model helps people seeking asylum build dignified, sustainable futures. It is grounded in a strengths-based, human-rights approach. We start with people’s skills, aspirations and potential, and create the pathways that turn that into real opportunities.
